Course description
This course is designed to produce future leaders for the tourism and hospitality industries. It covers a broad spectrum of issues across both industries and emphasises the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for effective tourism and hospitality management. It gives students the broadest possible career options by combining a solid business degree - encompassing areas such as accounting, marketing and economics - with specialised tourism and hospitality studies.
Course structure
All subjects are worth 15 credit points. First year: Eight compulsory subjects. Second year: Seven compulsory subjects and one elective. Third year: Five compulsory subjects and three electives.

Major areas of study
Melbourne (Bundoora) campus: Tourism management, accommodation management, food service management, accounting, economics, event management, hospitality, human resource management, languages, marketing, tourism-adventure, catering and conference management.
Bendigo campus: Rural tourism, community tourism, tourism and the environment, destination marketing and management, festival and event tourism, tourism enterprise management.

Melbourne (Bundoora) campus: Students are required to purchase a basic hospitality uniform. Corporate uniforms are available at a cost of approximately A$150.
Bendigo campus: Students are required to purchase a basic hospitality uniform. Uniforms are purchased through BRIT as part of the TAFE course component.
Middle Band
Re-ranking is based on prerequisite studies, Business (any), Mathematics (any), LOTE (any). Criteria associated with the La Trobe University Rural and Regional Student Access Scheme (RRSAS) also apply.

Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 and 4: Study score of at least 20 in English (any).

Career opportunities
Graduates can choose from diverse career opportunities. Those choosing to work in tourism may find employment in the airline industry, coach companies, cruise liners, holiday resorts, tourist attractions, ecotourism, event and conference management, international sporting events and festivals, government tourism organisations, and wholesale and retail tourism. Those choosing to work in hospitality may work as managers of hotels, motels, resorts, restaurants, clubs, large catering facilities and convention centres.
