Course description
This double degree allows students to undertake complementary studies from humanities, social sciences and accounting.
The accounting component offers subjects from career-specific areas including financial and management accounting, auditing, finance, business law and taxation, in a professionally-accredited degree. The arts degree allows students to pursue an intellectual area of interest, such as a language, the politics of a region or a country, or the social context within which students may choose to practice as an accountant.
Course structure
Students must complete the compulsory and elective subjects required for each degree. Students must take at least one major in an arts discipline, where a major consists of 30 credit points in first year, 40 credit points in second year and 60 credit points in third year. Honours is available to students who demonstrate exceptional merit in either degree or in both degrees, and requires an additional year of study for each degree.
Contact hours
Three hours per 15 credit point subject and four hours per 20 credit point subject in arts disciplines. Generally three hours per 15 credit points for accounting subjects.

Extra requirements
Non-Year 12 applicants must complete and submit a VTAC Pi form for work experience to be considered.
Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 and 4: Study score of at least 25 in English (any), and 20 in Mathematics (any).

Career opportunities
Arts graduates have diverse opportunities in administration, community development, education, human services, journalism, management, social policy and planning, and social research.
Accounting graduates can work in public accounting - specialising in auditing, investigative accounting, financial advising or taxation - or in the private sector, where there are opportunities in large and small organisations; or in the public and not-for-profit sectors.
Professional recognition
The course is structured to meet the accreditation requirements of CPA Australia. To meet the accreditation requirements of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA), students must complete the subjects Taxation and Auditing.
