Course description
The Master of Visual Arts by research is a studio-based program with associated theoretical studies to bring candidates to a high level of study in the visual arts. The program emphasises a spirit of excellence and a strong sense of independent artistic enquiry in the candidate's chosen area of research. Specific discipline offerings within Visual Arts include ceramics, general drawing, graphic design, multimedia, painting, photography, and print making.

Tuition fee (AUD)

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or
Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from the La Trobe University Language Centre; or
Approved equivalent.
Academic entry requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian Bachelors degree with Honours at H1 or H2A level, or approved international equivalent. Applicants with Honours at H2B level, or equivalent, may be considered in some instances.

The progress of candidates is reviewed annually. Final assessment of the thesis is by two or more examiners, of whom at least one is external. The thesis must demonstrate competence in conducting and reporting research work under supervision and mastery of the chosen topic at a high level.
