Course description
This course places strong emphasis on the management of information systems, including the design, maintenance and use of software and applications in business organisations. The course develops professionals who can both use and build information systems to aid decision-making. It also incorporates modern data modelling, databases, data communication systems and software engineering techniques.
Course structure
Students can enrol in one of the following two course options:
Option 1 with major coursework thesis: eight subjects plus a major coursework thesis in information systems.
Option 2 with minor coursework thesis: ten subjects plus a minor coursework thesis in information systems.
Specialised subjects include: intelligent computing systems, co-operating computer systems, software engineering, artificial intelligence, games technology, databases, network engineering, software engineering and software systems and web development.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Computer-Based Test - A minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or more in the test of Written English; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or
Completion of the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at PG (postgraduate) level available from the La Trobe University Language Centre; or
Approved equivalent.
Academic entry requirements
An Australian Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area such as business, commerce, economics, engineering, or approved international equivalent, along with good programming skills using C++ or Java. Work experience in management, computer science, or computer engineering would be beneficial.
