Course description
This program provides a path for experienced practitioners in the health professions and other graduates to further develop their expertise and undertake research in professional settings. The Professional Doctorates take the equivalent of three years full-time study, the first year being coursework (compulsory and elective subjects), and second and third year consisting of a research thesis and doctoral colloquia.
A particular strength of the program is the possibility of taking up to 75 per cent of the coursework in subjects with a strong practical and/or clinical orientation. This component of the program incorporates a flexible model of individual contacts with students. Supervision is by appropriately qualified staff from the Division in which the students are enrolled. This program is offered in alternate years only, with the next intake in 2011. Areas of research include: ageing cancer and palliative care nursing; community nursing; mental health nursing; and midwifery.
