Course description
This integrated program is designed to produce graduates with specialist skills in health informatics and health information management. The course offers completion of a Bachelor of Information Systems degree in combination with a Master's degree in Health Information Management over a four-year period. However, students may exit at the end of the third year with a Bachelor of Information Systems.
Course structure
The course consists of a broad-ranging core curriculum covering computing, business, and management subjects, together with a wide range of electives.
First-year studies include foundations of management, management information systems, systems analysis and design, object-oriented programming, human biosciences, and medical terminology. Second- and third-year studies include databases and database management, web application development, health information management, health informatics, and an industry-based information systems project. Fourth year covers advanced subjects that form the Master of Health Information Management.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
Additional costs (AUD)
Approximate costs include: Clinical coding books (must be purchased every two years) - A$395, police check (A$$14, 2009 indicative fee only), memory stick - A$30-60.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent.

The following types of industry experience are available in this course.
- Workplace experience for academic credit
If the industry experience program is not a registered part of their course a student will need to hold work rights on their visa, this permits the student to work up to 20 hours per week when their course is in session and unlimited hours outside these times. However, if a student has completed their course and their student visa is expiring they will need to apply for another visa with work rights rather than renewing their student visa based on undertaking industry experience.
