Course description
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills in nutrition necessary to promote health and fitness for individuals and communities. It provides a multidisciplinary education in science studies essential to the study of nutrition, and offers parallel studies in human nutrition without a clinical component.

Work has commenced on the $230-million Centre for AgriBiosciences and the $90-million La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science. Once completed, these Centres will expand laboratory facilities as well as teaching and research opportunities for La Trobe's science students.
Course structure
First-year studies include chemistry, biology, psychology, statistics, and public health for nutrition. In later years, students can choose from the following specialisations: Eating disorders, dietary management, advanced topics in nutrition and disease, nutrition and performance, management of dietary behaviour, and anthropological and public health aspects of nutrition.

Tuition fee (AUD)

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
Additional costs (AUD)
Depending on the subjects chosen, approximate costs include: laboratory coat - A$30, dissecting kit - A$40. These may be purchased from any supplier and become students' personal property.
English language requirements
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the www.latrobe.edu.au/icollege La Trobe International College website.
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent.

Graduates will find career opportunities in food science, animal and human nutrition and in health science areas, as well as general professions that have traditionally employed biological science graduates. Opportunities exist for nutritionists in government bodies, community health centres, food companies, food manufacturing and processing, animal health companies and in sporting clubs.
Professional recognition
The course provides prerequisites for entry into postgraduate courses, including those professionally accredited by the Dieticians Association of Australia. Students should note that entry to these courses is competitive and places may be limited.
