Course description
<b> NOTE: This course will not run in 2010, but may be available in 2011.</b>
This course allows students to complement their accounting skills with knowledge of the health system. Graduates acquire specialised skills in health administration, health policy and health services management, as well as gaining a professional accounting qualification and business background. They are able to apply the knowledge and skills of an accountant to the health services sector.
Course structure
Students undertake 270 credit points from the Bachelor of Health Sciences and 270 credit points from the Bachelor of Commerce.
<i>Bachelor of Health Sciences:</i>
Students study core subjects in first year, as part of an interdisciplinary common year in which students undertake units alongside peers from across the Faculty of Health Sciences. In second year, students are required to major in human physiology and anatomy, public health, or ergonomics, safety and health .
<i>Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting)</i>
To be eligible to apply for CPA recognition students must complete the core commerce subjects from a list of first, second and third-year subjects.
Subject to timetable restrictions and unit prerequisites, students can choose their own balance of health sciences and commerce subjects required for any given year of their course. Fieldwork placement may be available in specified third year public health units.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at postgraduate (EFS5 (70%) PG1) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the La Trobe International College website.
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 575 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 233 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 88 with no individual score less than 22; or
Approved equivalent.

One of Chemistry, Biology, Year 12 Mathematics or Physics.

Graduates can work in either the public or private health services sectors. Employment may be found in government departments and agencies, hospitals, community health centres, rehabilitation centres, geriatric care agencies, the voluntary health services sector, or private health services organisations.
Professional recognition
This course has been accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). Graduates are eligible for membership with either professional accounting body or other professional groups such as National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
