Course description
This double degree combines studies in finance with science studies, such as mathematics, statistics, and computer science, with options to add subjects to at least sub-major level from any discipline. Students with an aptitude for mathematics can apply advanced skills to the development and analysis of financial products and the forecasting of exchange rates, interest rates and other financial variables. This is a rapidly developing area of finance and underlies the increasing reliance on financial derivatives and options.

Course structure
First-year studies include accounting, mathematics, statistics, first-year science major, and economics. Later-year studies include corporate finance, science electives, usiness electives, banking and financial law, financial risk management, and business electives. Honours is available to students with exceptional results in either or both degrees and requires an additional year of study for each degree.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
IELTS (Academic) - minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test - A minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test - A minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the test of written English; or
Internet-based Test - A minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University.

Career opportunities
Graduates who have combined mathematics and finance are sought after by financial firms. Their capacity to evaluate risk and to forecast the impact of shocks to the financial markets allows firms to better gauge their buying and selling decisions. Graduates tend to find work as financial analysts, forecasters and specialists in pricing derivatives such as conventional and exotic options, and are well prepared for scientific management.
Professional recognition
An appropriate choice of subjects can lead to membership of the Australasian Institute of Banking and Finance and of the Australian Mathematical Society. Students taking a major accredited by the Statistical Society of Australia are entitled to Graduate Statistician status upon joining the Society.
