Course description

This course produces graduates with specialist skills and practical experience to work as an engineer in the telecommunications and information technology (IT) industries. It addresses all major aspects of computer, internet, mobile, multimedia and wireless technology. Students gain strong theoretical and practical skills in the design, implementation and operation of telecommunications circuits, systems and networks. The unique concurrent program combines undergraduate and Master's-level studies. Students must perform at a satisfactory level in third and fourth years to continue in the concurrent program.

Course structure

First-year studies include introductory electronics, mathematics, object-oriented programming, and physics. Later-year studies include a major project, applied management for engineers, and optical fibre communication systems.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

English language requirements

Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the www.latrobe.edu.au/icollege La Trobe International College website.

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or

TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or

Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or

Approved equivalent.

Subject prerequisites

Mathematics determined to be equivalent to the Australian VCE Units 3 & 4 with a minimum score of 25 in Mathematical Methods (either) or 20 in Specialist Mathematics.
