Course description

This course provides the necessary requirements for registration as a primary school teacher in Victoria. Graduates are highly respected in Australia and internationally for their detailed knowledge of curriculum and highly developed teaching skills.


Course structure

The course comprises 480 credit points/32 subjects; first year includes four foundation subjects. At the end of first year students nominate a preference for a P-10 or P-6 strand. The P-6 pathway includes six electives, enabling students to choose an additional discipline sequence. The P-10 strand qualifies students to teach from Prep to Middle School and Secondary and includes two minors for secondary registration purposes.

A minor or major pathway is also available in Languages Other than English (LOTE), Religious Education (Catholic) or Special Education. Students may undertake Honours as part of fourth year.

Special requirements

Applicants are required to provide evidence of a National Criminal Record Check clearance from each country or countries in which they have lived for 12 months or more within the previous 10 years (after the age of 18 years). The criminal record check must be presented at enrolment.

Industry experience

The following types of industry experience are available in this course.

  • Industry project (university-based, for academic credit)

If the industry experience program is not a registered part of their course a student will need to hold work rights on their visa, this permits the student to work up to 20 hours per week when their course is in session and unlimited hours outside these times. However, if a student has completed their course and their student visa is expiring they will need to apply for another visa with work rights rather than renewing their student visa based on undertaking industry experience.
