Course description

This double degree allows students to pursue interests in both science and arts disciplines, with a wide range of options. Discipline areas are divided equally between science and arts, allowing students to follow two distinct major studies with flexibility, in order to manage timetable clashes. Potential study combinations are extensive. Interested students should explore their options carefully and may wish to discuss their choices with university staff. A study plan is determined with each student on an individual basis.

Course structure

Major areas of study in science: agricultural science, biochemistry and molecular science, botany and plant science, chemistry; computer science, electronics, environmental science, genetics, mathematics, microbiology, physics, psychology, space science, statistical science and zoology.
Major areas of study in arts: Aboriginal studies, ancient Greek studies, ancient mediterranean studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history, Asian studies, Australian studies, Chinese, cinema studies, international development, English. European studies, gender; sexuality and diversity, history, Indonesian, Italian studies, Japanese, Latin-American studies, legal studies, linguistics, logic, media studies, modern Greek studies, modern Mediterranean studies, North American studies, peace studies, philosophy, politics, religion and spirituality studies, Sanskrit, sociology, Spanish, theatre and drama.

Tuition fee (AUD)

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.

Additional costs (AUD)

Depending on the subjects chosen, approximate costs include: laboratory coat - A$30, dissecting kit - A$40. These may be purchased from any supplier and become students' personal property.

English language requirements

Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the La Trobe International College website.

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or

TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or

TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or

TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or

Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or

Approved equivalent.

Subject prerequisites

Mathematics determined to be equivalent to the Australian VCE Units 3 & 4 Mathematical Methods (either) or Specialist Mathematics.
