Course description
This degree allows students to undertake complementary studies from accounting and finance. The accounting component offers students subjects from career-specific areas including accounting, auditing, business law and taxation while attaining professional accreditation as an accountant. The finance component is specifically designed to meet academic and vocational requirements for a career in the finance industry.
Course structure
Students complete compulsory and elective subjects, accumulating a minimum of 450 credit points from subjects offered from the Faculty of Law and Management, and remaining credit points from six electives.

English language requirements
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the La Trobe International College website.
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the last two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Accounting have many career opportunities, particularly when they have good communication skills and combine accounting with the study of another major field of business. Graduates may choose to work in the public accounting area specialising in auditing, investigative accounting, financial advising or taxation. Opportunities in accounting also exist in the private sector in both large and small organisations, and in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Graduates are provided with sufficient background to seek employment in the management consulting and general business advisory areas.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Finance are equipped to pursue careers in the fields of corporate finance (for example, mergers and acquisitions), new issues, foreign exchange, securities portfolios, syndicated loans, and money marketing operations. In any of these areas, graduates may be employed as analysts (for example, dealing with forecasting financial markets, pricing financial products and developing trading strategies), as dealers (in foreign exchange, bond, stock and money markets), or in financial sales.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Accounting has been accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). Graduates are eligible for membership in either professional accounting body or other professional groups such as the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in London. An appropriate choice of subjects within the Bachelor of Finance can lead to professional accreditation with the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
