Course description
This double degree allows students to complement a professional accounting qualification with the study of economic theory and practice. The accounting qualification allows learning in career-specific areas including accounting, auditing, finance, business law and taxation. Students also study core areas of economics and its application to particular areas and policy issues.
Course structure
Students undertake majors in accounting and economics, with the option of a third major or a minor.

The University reserves the right to vary fees on an annual basis. Fees will not normally rise above 7% per annum. Should the University decide to increase its fees, that increase will take effect on 1 January of the following year.
English language requirements
Successful completion of English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B certificate at undergraduate (EFS5 (60%) UG) level conducted by La Trobe University Language Centre; for more information please visit the La Trobe International College website.
IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper-based Test: a minimum score of 550 with a score of 5 or better in the Test of Written English; or
TOEFL Computer-based Test: a minimum score of 213 with a score of 5 in essay writing; or
TOEFL Internet-based Test: a minimum score of 80 with no individual score less than 20; or
Satisfactory completion of an English language subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. This must have been completed in the past two years and at an academic level acceptable to the University; or
Approved equivalent.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Accounting have many career options, particularly when they have good communication skills and combine accounting with the study of another major field of business. Graduates may choose to work in the public accounting area specialising in auditing, investigative accounting, financial advising or taxation. Opportunities in accounting also exist in the private sector in both large and small organisations, and in the public and not-for-profit sectors. Graduates are provided with sufficient background to seek employment in the management consulting and general business advisory areas.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Economics have a diverse range of career opportunities in large corporations, government organisations, administration, and the banking and finance industries. Within these organisations they can work in areas such as policy, trade, international economics, development economics, environmental economics, public relations or international relations.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Accounting has been accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). Graduates are eligible for membership in either professional accounting body or other professional groups such as the National Institute of Accountants (NIA) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in London.
An appropriate choice of subjects within the Bachelor of Economics can lead to professional accreditation with the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).
