What are the different levels of study?
- Undergraduate
- The first level of study you can do at university. Your undergraduate degree is usually a Bachelor degree, and takes a minimum of three years' full-time study. Honours is an additional year of study that allows you to specialise in a specific field, and often to apply for postgraduate study (depending on your results).
- Postgraduate - coursework
- A degree you can undertake once you have a Bachelor degree (you may or may not need an Honours qualification). Coursework programs usually involve lectures or seminars, and a minor thesis (depending on the degree).
- Postgraduate - research
- A Master's or Doctoral degree (PhD) - you can undertake postgraduate research once you have a Bachelor degree with Honours with sufficiently high results (or an equivalent qualification). For these courses, you research and write a major thesis under the supervision of a senior academic. In some cases, you can undertake a major project - in visual art or media production, for example - and write an exegesis about the process and results.
