Subject matter other than works
Cinematographic Films
- the combination of the visual images and the sounds in the soundtrack associated with those images. Films range from home movies or video recordings including commercially produced movies and animated films, television programs, television commercials, music videos, etc. Separate copyright may also exist in the music in the film's soundtrack, in the screenplay and in any other copyright works appearing in the film, such as artistic works.
Sound Recordings
- vinyl records, tape recordings, compact discs and digital music files. Copyright in the music or other content is separate.
Broadcasts
- TV, radio, cable and satellite transmissions. The image and sound signals that are broadcast are protected.
Published Editions
- layout, design and typesetting of the material on the page is protected. This is separate from the copyright in the material that is written.
A multimedia product (e.g. a CD-ROM) may include text (a literary work), illustrations (artistic works), sound recordings and film, and each element may be separately protected by copyright.
