Chinese calligraphy, also known as brush calligraphy or “shūfǎ” (书法), is an ancient art of China

Art of calligraphy
that is equally relevant in the modern era. A meditative practice that engages the body and mind, it requires an exacting blend of discipline and creativity.
A practice long admired beyond China's borders, Picasso once said if he had been born Chinese, he would have been a calligrapher, not a painter.
In addition to the practice of brush writing, elements covered in the course also include:
- History of Chinese language
- Development of Chinese writing
- Understanding the use of equipment
- Techniques of brushwork
- Structure of Chinese characters.

Teacher
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge is required. All skill levels will be accommodated.
Materials
Students will be provided a brush to keep, and paper and ink will be provided for in-class activities. Additional materials are available for purchase from the Institute, consult with the teacher should you have any request.
