Paul discusses his career pathway and why he chose academia and ultimately academic management. He tells us that his career journey has been part accident and part conscious decision. Having resettled his family in Australia, Paul discusses his perceptions of this country and how he sees public discourse and class structure here as quite different to that in the UK and Europe. Finally, Paul reveals something about his personal life that we perhaps would not expect, but in the context of the new La Trobe, it all makes sense.

Paul talks about what motivated him to take on the job of VC at La Trobe. He discusses the big challenges we face as a university and describes how he found a university lacking in self confidence and how we are rebuilding it. Paul opens up about his passion for providing educational opportunities and talks about how together we can meet our moral responsibility to create a better society. Finally Paul reflects on the responsibility and inherent authority of the role of Vice-Chancellor and how it can be used to harness the aspirations of our staff and students to ensure the University's future success.
