Academic collaboration

Research is an important element in the fulfilment of the Centre's mission.

Based on the abundant research resources of La Trobe University, Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Centre initiates projects in China studies with an international dimension whilst coordinating and facilitating high quality research programs throughout the universities consonant with their strengths.

Main reseach activities

  • Engage in China-related research projects with leading universities, institutions and scholars worldwide.
  • Sponsor outstanding researchers to do research at La Trobe University.
  • Invite distinguished scholars from both China and Australia to deliver public lectures and organise seminars and workshops at La Trobe University.
  • Host international conferences in China and Australia together with leading universities in China.
  • Facilitate research and attendance at international conferences at the partner universities by specialists based at La Trobe University.
  • Encourage and assist Chinese and Australian scientific researchers to participate in the development of research proposals for funding from Chinese, Australian and International Agencies.
  • Promote cooperation among centres dedicated to China studies and Asian studies globally, and among centres dedicated to Australian studies in China.

Research fellows and visiting scholars

The Centre for China Studies has been supporting Chinese research fellows and visiting scholars of various disciplinary backgrounds to La Trobe University since 2006.
