The Wicked Witch of the West is the epitome of evil. She embodies many of the immoral qualities that make a person wicked. On the continuum scale the witch would be characterized at the extreme end of evil, as she doesn't possess or show any good qualities. She is definitely portrayed as an evil and fierce character and her evil actions to destroy Dorothy and her friends set her up as a despised character in the novel.
- Harmful towards others
For example, the witch sends out her slaves to try and purposefully hurt Dorothy and her friends. The witch orders her wolves to try and bite the group members, her crows to try to peck their eyes out and the bees to try and sting them to death.
- Immoral
For example, the witch captures visitors to her land and makes them into slaves. She holds the wolves, crows, bees and the Winkies under her bondage, resisting their pleas for freedom.
- Greediness
For example, the witch wants Dorothy's Silver Shoes and plans a cunning trick to steal them off her. The witch wishes to possess all the power she can obtain and wants to rule over everyone.





Although readers don't read about the Wicked Witch of the East and what evil things she did to her people, we know that she is very similar to the Wicked Witch of the West and both of them together were said to be fierce, terrible and evil creatures.
The Wicked Witch of the East definitely sits at the extreme end of evil on the continuum scale as she showed harmful and immoral qualities also. She ruled over the Munchkins and frightened them greatly with her evil powers, holding them under bondage for many years. She was even the person responsible for turning Tin-man from a man into tin by making him cut off his body parts with his axe.
