Analysis

Aside from the Snow White story I think that the mirrors biggest role was in this story The Snow Queen, written by Hans Christian Anderson. The mirror in this tale was a thing of complete evil, made for nothing other than malicious intent.

Why are mirrors so often portrayed as things of evil, or wicked being?

This could be perhaps because for so long the realm of Faerie, or the realm of magic has been associated with evil, or wicked creatures. The mirror has many associations with this realm through  mythical creatures like the Vampire, and then even today in such urban legends as Bloody Mary.
