- Sorcerer disguised himself as a poor man and went to the house of a man with three beautiful daughters pretending he was a beggar and needed something to eat. When the eldest daughter got to the door he kidnapped her and took her back to his house in the dark forest
- After a few days told her he had to go on a journey. He gave her the keys to the house and told her she could go anywhere except the room that the little key opened. If she disobeyed she would receive the penalty of death. He also gave her an egg which he told her she was to carry everywhere that she went.
- She explored the house and when she got to the forbidden door, curiosity got the better of her and she opened it. Inside she found a large, bloody basin filled with dead people who had been chopped to pieces. She was so surprised she dropped the egg into the basin. The egg stained with blood which she could not wipe off.
- The sorcerer returned from his journey and when he saw the stains he knew she had entered the room and so he chopped her head off, hacked her into pieces and threw her in the basin.
- The sorcerer went back to the man’s house to get the second daughter. Curiosity got the better of her too and she was hacked into pieces.
- The sorcerer then went back to get the third daughter. She however was clever than the other two. When the sorcerer went away she put the egg somewhere safe and then searched the house. She entered the forbidden room and saw her two sisters chopped in pieces. She gathered their body parts and put them back together and the girls come back to life.
- As there was no stain on the egg when the sorcerer came back he declared the third daughter as his bride.
- She then tricked him to take a basket of gold to her parents. In the basket she hid her two sisters, who were to send for help.
- The third daughter invites all of the sorcerer’s friends to the house then disguises herself as a bird and leaves the house.
- When the guests and the sorcerer are inside the house, the help who had been sent for set fire to the house and burned the sorcerer and his crew.
