The story of Red Riding Hood is a classic fairy tale, which has been altered and changed over time. There are numerous versions of the famous tale including those by Perrault (1729), the Grimm Brothers, Italo Calvino, Roald Dahl and more recently the movie Hoodwinked by Kanbar Animation Studio(2006).

The first known Red Riding Hood tale, a folk narrative is known as The Story Of Grandmother which was recorded in 1885, but was presumably told orally at least one hundred years earlier. This is a shocking tale, where the child eats her own grandmothers flesh and drinks her blood at the demands of the wolf. She is then told to undress herself and get into bed with the wolf. After realising, the girl escapes from the wolf by pretending to relieve herself and tying the rope that was attached to her onto a tree outside.

This website aims to compare the many different versions of the Red Riding Hood tale and give insight into the changes made for the contexts in which they were written.
