Sleeping Beauty

Beauty and the Beast

Cinderella

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

References

After reading a few different versions of sleeping beauty, they are all very similar in the story line with only a few variants in minor details. Each version has the thirteen fairies present with each giving different gifts including:

*happiness, beauty, wisdom,

*riches, love, pleasure,

* Innocence, truth, delight,

* Trust and gentleness

With the thirteenth fairy giving her the present of death on her thirteen or fifteenth birthday (depending on which version you read) after pricking herself in the finger with a spindle.

Of course sleeping beauty is rescued by prince charming receiving the loving kiss to awaken her and then the proposal of marriage. Whilst this is all very sweet and romantic it is important to realise that this story is yet another fairy tale and this is very unlike and near impossible to happen in real life.

Each version of the story that I analysed was illustrated, which added to the detail and colourful which adds to the story and gains the readers attention.

Some people do believe that the lady that sleeping beauty finds in the room of the castle with the golden key was the thirteenth fairy. And that she had returned to make sure that sleeping beauty did die, not knowing that the twelfth fairy had modified the spell with the present that she gave sleeping beauty as a baby.

The young audience that this story is written for appreciates where this story takes them and the way that whilst reading this story they are able to believe that fairies really do exist. Children enjoy stories that take them to places where there are no troubles and they are allowed to believe the most fantastical things exist. It is like another world for them to escape from their troubles and go to this place.
