- There are many different versions of Red Riding Hood.
- The origins of the tale can be traced back to as early as the 17th century in Northern Italy, where it was better known as “La Finta Nonna” or “The False Grandmother”.
- However, the basic points to the story can also be related to various Japanese, French, Chinese and Korean tales.
- In these earlier tales, the antagonist is not always a wolf, but many other creatures, generally mystical, such as an ogre or a werewolf.
- “Rotkäppchen” is the Grimm Brothers version of Red Riding hood.
- Little Red Riding hood has many names in all different languages, such as; “Rotkäppchen” (German), “Le Petit Chaperon rouge” (French) and “Capuchinho Vermelho” (Portuguese), just to name a few.
