Synopsis

    • A poor miller died leaving his mill, donkey and cat to his three sons.
    • The sons divided the possessions.  The eldest son got the mill, the middle son got the donkey and the youngest son got the cat.
    • The youngest son was very unhappy with his inheritance, as he couldn’t see any use of the cat.
    • The cat however thought other wise and told the son to get him a pair of boots and a sack.
    • The surprised son did as the cat asked
    • The cat set to work and caught a rabbit and headed to the Palace to see the king.
    • He told the king that the rabbit was from Marquis Carabis (the youngest son).  The king was quite pleased
    • The next day the cat caught some partridges and took them to the king.  The cat continued to catch game for the king informing him that they were from the Count (youngest son)
    • One day the cat instructed the son to go to the river and bathe.  The cat was aware that on that day the king and his beautiful daughter were going to go past in their carriage.  The cat hid the sons clothes and called for help from the king to save the drowning Count.  The king sent his guards to save him and send some of his officers to get the count some clothes.
    • The Count looking stunning in the fine clothes he was given caught the eye of the king’s daughter.
    • The king asked the count to join them in his carriage so he did.
    • The cat was a step ahead and told the workings in the fields ahead to tell the king that they belonged to Marquis.
    • The cat then went to a castle where an ogre lived.  He talked to the ogre and asked him to demonstrate his magical talents and turn into a lion and the Ogre did.  The cat then asked him to turn into a mouse and before the ogre could turn back the cat ate the mouse.
    • When the king went passed the meadows he was told they belonged to the Count and then when he came to the castle he was welcomed in.  Awaiting him was a feast.  The king was very pleased and so was his daughter.
    • The Princess was soon married to the Lord Marquis.  The cat also became a Lord.
