Too Many Pears! Jackie French, illus. Bruce Whatley Koala Books 2003 Audience: Early readers Pamela the cow is an orchard invader! She loves pears and will get through any barrier to gobble them up. Finally, faced with the loss of their favourite fruit, the family must take desperate measures. It is young Amy who finds a very clever way to convince Pamela to stop This is another delightful farm story from two of Australia’s best children’s books creators. It is very similar to their hilarious Diary of a Wombat, looking at the everyday life of people and animals. Bruce Whatley even manages to make the mother of the family, in each case, look remarkably like Jackie French, poking gentle fun at her enthusiasm for rural life. Too Many Pears is a delightful read-along, read-together book for early readers with plenty of little jokes in the text and pictures to keep grown-ups smiling too.
