Biography and studies

• The Hans Christian Andersen Center at the university of Southern Denmark is a good place to start, especially its biography
• The Finnish Book and Writers site has an extensive introduction to Andersen, while the ISLMC's Hans Christian Andersen page is a very good gateway to many useful resources.  
• The Danish National Library has manuscripts and portraits of Andersen in its image database, though much is in Danish (some can be converted to English).  
• David Brown's Folklore, Myth and Legend page in the Children's Literature Web Guide has a wonderful set of links to general reference works and specific web pages in this area.
• The Hans Christian Andersen Awards given by IBBY show his standing in the world of Children's Literature.  

Texts

• Project Gutenberg - has a full collection of the Tales, both as a very large file and individually.
• Zvi Har'El has a complete list in chronological order with detailed bibliography (and a good links page)
• Candlelight Stories has a large selection
• Great Literature On-line has a brief biography and some tales. 

And lastly, why not do a bit of searching. The ubiquitous Google or Alta Vista build good results from your search. Try "hans christian andersen" as a name, as well as descriptors such as children's literature, fairy tales, folk tales or history in various combinations.
