La Trobe University
The main campus of La Trobe University is located in Bundoora, a northern suburb of Melbourne only 14 km from the city centre. The University also has a number of regional campuses throughout the State of Victoria. The Bundoora campus is located on a spacious, natural setting with lakes and a surrounding wildlife sanctuary. The city of Melbourne is a multi-cultural city and is regularly voted as one of the world's most livable cities!
Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is located at the main campus at Bundoora. It is a member of the School of Molecular Sciences and is involved in the La Trobe Institute of Molecular Science, soon to be housed in a state-ot-the-art new building.
Outreach Programs
The Department of Chemistry has been providing specialist training courses in chemistry for Victorian School Students for well over a decade! The outreach program is primarily aimed at students from grades 11-12 (VCE), who want to explore applications of chemistry. We also regularly provide training courses for secondary school teachers, providing training in new developments in chemistry, including nanotechnology, forensic chemistry and chemistry instrumentation.
Course Structure
Students interested in chemistry can enrol in a number of courses, from more specialist courses (nanotechnology, medicinal chemistry) to more general courses (general science). Bachelor degrees are three-years full-time study. There is an option to complete a fourth, honours year. Further information on chemistry courses is available.
You can choose chemistry subjects at all years of study, from first year to honours. Further information is available regarding Chemistry courses and subjects. Students completing a major in chemistry with good grades have the opportunity to undertake chemistry honours, which is in general a pre-requisite for further study in chemistry.
