Investigation of the shapes of Bragg reflections from small single crystals in diffraction space, specifically [Delta][omega],[Delta]2[theta] space.

Aim: To appreciate the roles of the shape components, such as the source emissivity distribution, the source wavelength distribution, the specimen crystal reflectivity distribution, the monochromator system, on the detailed two-dimensional intensity distribution of the Bragg reflections. Such information is fundamental to consideration of the accuracy of measurement of integrated intensity and hence of structure factor values (F ), necessary for the study of the electron density distribution of atoms in molecules and ionic entities. These experimental [Delta][omega], [Delta]2[theta] distributions also provide an approach to exploration of means of correction for secondary extinction by a point-by-point procedure instead of conventional treatments which deal only in averages.
