Research Expertise

Flow Analysis and Chemical Sensors
Separation devices (gas diffusion and pervaporation cells) in flow injection systems are being applied to analysis of volatile and semi-volatile species in environmental samples, especially those containing suspensions and emulsions. Investigations are continuing on the development of on-line procedures for analysis of cyanide, ammonia, phenols and metallic species.

Research in chemical sensors involves the immobilisation of various reagents in polymeric substrates for use in electrochemical or optical sensors and the testing of these sensors in flow analysis for measurement of pH, metal ions and redox active species in environmental and industrial samples.
Environmental Science
Several projects involve the development of new analytical procedures for analysis of selected inorganic and organic toxic species in natural waters, sediments and industrial wastewaters. In collaboration with the EPA, these projects include the analysis of cadmium in environmental samples using electroanalytical techniques and arsenic species determination in lakes and estuarine waters using chromatographic and flow injection methods.
