Drug Design of kinase inhibitors

(with Prof. Bob Brownlee and Dr Belinda Abbott)

Computational modelling of biological systems is a useful tool in the design of new drugs. In this project, we are interested in studying the interaction (and inhibition) of the PDK1 and JAK kinases. Designing a drug that could inhibit these kinases could have implications in the therapeutic treatment of diabetes and certain cancers. There are two aspects to this project: modelling drug-enzyme interactions, and synthesising new drug molecules. It is possible to combine both aspects in a joint project, or to focus on either the modelling or synthesis only. Synthesis will be carried out under the supervision of Dr Belinda Abbott.
