Developing "click chemistry"; nitrile oxides

"Click Chemistry" has been described recently by the Nobel laureate, Professor Barry Sharpless. The most studied reaction in the field is the azide-alkyne cycloaddition to form 1,2,3-triazoles. In this project it is proposed to study and hopefully develop a new approach to nitrile oxides which are 1,3-dipoles like azides that display many of the same properties including "click" possibilities, but are not so easy to generate. Applications in the Ugi reaction are precursors to this project.
