honours research

The Honours program in the Department of Chemistry provides the opportunity to be involved in a research program at the cutting edge of Science and provides training in research techniques and experience with contemporary research instrumentation.

Chemistry students who obtain a good grade in their third year subjects and meet the entry requirements are invited to proceed to a fourth year Honours in Chemistry, which consists of advanced course work and an individual research project.

The discipline of Chemistry is broad in scope and there is a wide variety of project areas to choose from in our department. Indeed most of the projects offered will overlap with several of the research areas outlined below.

Individual projects for 2010 are outlined in the Honours Booklet (1.5MB, PDF)

Analytical Chemistry Computational Chemistry
Drug Design Electrochemistry
Environmental Analytical Chemistry Forensic Science
Forensic Organic Chemistry Heterocyclic Chemistry
Inorganic Synthesis Luminescence Spectroscopy
Mass Spectrometry Materials Chemistry
Medicinal Chemistry Molecular Modeling
Nanotechnology NMR Spectroscopy
Organic Synthesis Photoelectrochemistry
Sensors/Microsensors Stereospecific Organic Synthesis
Surface Science and Surface Analysis Technological/Environmental Chemistry

We also regularly offer projects that are partly or wholly off campus in collaboration with external bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), CSIRO, Victoria Police Forensics Department and other Universities.
