Research interests

My research programme is a continuing one involving the following three major areas:

  • Taxonomy, palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography of the Palaeogene and Neogene ostracode faunas of southeast Australia, currently of the Batesford Quarry (see below)
  • Ultrastructure of the Palaeozoic, Palaeogene, Neogene and Recent ostracode carapace (particularly the microreticulation) - in collaboration with Dr Ken N. Bell.
  • Taxonomy and palaeoecology of the ostracode fauna of the Bitesantennary Site, Riversleigh, North Queensland., in conjunction with the work of the vertebrate palaeontologists led by Professor Michael Archer (Univ. of NSW).

Currently, the first project entails monographing the ostracode assemblages from numerous samples from the Batesford Quarry, Fyansford - (Dr Bell is monographing the foraminiferal assemblages concurrently). I have temporarily suspended this work in order to study the Riversleigh material (see above). The second project continues study of the ultrastructure of microreticulation and its evolution and ontogeny, with particular emphasis on Neogene and Recent species of Ostracoda.
