Aims

The Chris Smith & Associates/La Trobe University Civil Engineering Scholarship Program has been established to provide support for the completion of a tertiary qualification of future professional civil engineering staff. It is available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Civil Engineering course, or one of the Engineering double degree courses, at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University.

Company Background

Chris Smith and Associates Pty Ltd (CS&A) is comprised of specialist personnel with experience in the Urban Development and Subdivision industry. The majority of their staff live within the City of Greater Shepparton, located in the heart of the Goulburn Valley. Their team is made up of civil engineers, licensed surveyors, planners, engineering and urban designers, technical officers and administrative support staff. The Civil Engineering team specialises in the design of infrastructure for multi-lot residential and industrial developments. Typically the team designs roads, drainage, retardation basins and wetlands, sewerage and water reticulation, sewage pump stations and interfaces with telecommunications and energy companies in relation to other essential services.   • Eligibility

    Applicants must meet the following criteria

    • be a full-time student in an undergraduate Civil Engineering course at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University,
    • have a strong academic background, and
    • not hold any other Civil Engineering scholarship, and
    • have a desire/preference to practice in a rural area.

    The Scholarship is tenable for the normal length of the course, subject to satisfactory academic performance and an annual interview. The successful applicant will be required to work for CS&A for a period of eighteen months after completion of university studies. Should the successful applicant depart full time employment with CS&A within the first twelve months after graduation, the amount of $3,000 shall be fully refundable. Early departure after twelve months will require the successful applicant to refund on a "pro-rata time served" basis.

    Applicants are required to demonstrate why they are interested in the Scholarship and submit a resume and an academic transcript with their application. The selection of the successful applicant will be made by a panel of Chris Smith & Associates and La Trobe University staff and based on the above criteria.
