Aims
The Hindmarsh Shire/La Trobe University Civil Engineering Scholarship Program has been established to provide support for the completion of a tertiary qualification of future professional civil engineering staff. It is available to students undertaking the Bachelor of Civil Engineering course, or one of the engineering double degree courses, at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University. The scholarship aims to encourage students to return to the area they grew up in to live and work, assisting with the retention of skills in the region.
Benefits
- financial support in the form of a $8,000 scholarship per year for the duration of the course,
- fully-paid vacation work experience during each year of the course, and
- access to career mentoring advice from Hindmarsh Shire Council Engineers.
Eligibility/Terms & Conditions
Applicants must meet the following criteria
- be a commencing full-time student in an undergraduate Civil Engineering course at the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University,
- have a strong academic background,
- preferably have completed their secondary education in the Shire of Hindmarsh,
- not hold any other Civil Engineering scholarship, and
- have a desire/preference to practice in rural areas.
There is one Scholarship available for a commencing student. The Scholarship is tenable for the normal length of the course, subject to satisfactory academic performance and an annual interview.
The successful applicant is committed to - following completion of full-time studies - work at Hindmarsh Shire Council for a period equivalent to the period of sponsorship.

Applicants are required to demonstrate why they are interested in the Scholarship and submit a resume and an academic transcript with their application. The selection of the successful applicant will be made by a panel of Hindmarsh Shire Council and La Trobe University staff and based on the above criteria.
