Award Ceremony for Lucrative Civil Engineering Scholarships

A ceremony to award ten civil engineering scholarships, valued at up to $40,000 each, was held on Tuesday 24 July 2007, at 3:30pm, in the Unique Bar & Bistro, La Trobe University, Bendigo.
Head of Civil Engineering at La Trobe University's Bendigo campus, Professor Joe Petrolito, said the University's lucrative industry-supported scholarship program is boosting the career prospects of students and the supply of civil engineers at a time of critical skills shortages right across Australia.
"It also highlights the exciting career opportunities that are available locally with the aim of attracting and retaining skilled civil engineers in regional areas."
"This year some $400,000 in scholarships and support programs have been offered to students to take up civil engineering study at La Trobe University - the largest scholarship offering ever."
The scholarships awarded were:
- Coomes Consulting Group/La Trobe University Civil Engineering Scholarship
- Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal/Coleambally Irrigation Civil Engineering Cadetship
- Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water/La Trobe University Civil Engineering Scholarship
- Murray Irrigation/La Trobe University Civil Engineering Scholarship.
