“After completion of my Engineering course in November 2005 I commenced work with AKRON Roads at the beginning of December 2005. AKRON Roads is a medium sized civil contracting company, primarily focused on road and subdivision construction.
“My 3 month introduction to AKRON was spent in direct involvement with the tendering process at AKRON. After processing and submitting many tenders, I have moved into the position of Construction Engineer, and am in training for the position of Project Engineer.
“Currently I am responsible for the running of two projects:
- 800m Duplication of Boundary Road, Laverton
- Major upgrading of existing Laverton Creek box culvert underpass to Boundary Road.
“General duties involved with the running of the above two projects consist of:
- Programming of works;
- Coordination and planning of all subcontractors, including negotiation and agreement of rates;
- Ordering and planning deliveries of all required materials;
- Daily monitoring and documentation of all running costs;
- Daily site visits to monitor the progress or work and resolve day-to-day construction issues as they arise on the ground;
- Monthly preparation and submission of progress claims;
- Monthly evaluation of cost to completes;
- Preparation of project budgets;
- Preparation and submission of traffic management plans;
- Preparation of quality plans;
- Preparation of OH&S plans;
- Preparation of Environmental Management Plans;
- Direct correspondence with client and consultants;
- Monthly finance performance meetings;
- Weekly on site meetings with client and consultants.
