I enjoy being a student ambassador as I get to influence prospective students through my own personal experience. I am a very social person, which fits right into my role as I’m constantly meeting new faces. I also take great pride in representing my university.
My advice for future students is to go to O-week! I have met so many new people and made so many new friends through it. I know people that didn’t go, and straight away they regretted not going.
La Trobe is great because the tutors are very passionate and enthusiastic about what they do and are very friendly and approachable. The campus is beautiful and is a joy to walk into every day. People are friendly and sociable, and I’ve made friends that I’ll never forget.
Future students should attend Open Day’s because of the wealth of knowledge gained from talking to people in and around the University. Also the seminars discussing in depth and different courses in critical to making future decisions.
Stacey Pascoe - Secondary teaching

My name is Stacey Pascoe. I am a student ambassador at La Trobe University. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary). At the end of my degree I plan on being a secondary school teacher.
I enjoy being a student ambassador because of the opportunity that it gives me to share my experiences and knowledge of the university with prospective students. I love meeting new people and helping people and the university in any way I can - the ambassador program enables me to do this.
The best advice that I can give to future students is don’t just look at the course title! Check out the subjects, and if you can, try to talk to current students and lecturers about their experiences. Other students will be able to share what they thought of the course, which will hopefully help with your decision.
La Trobe University is great because of the community atmosphere at La Trobe tops all others! It has an environment that supports and encourages learning. Lecturers and tutors are always willing to guide and assist with questions and they are knowledgeable about their subjects. Most importantly the university values the students and wants them to succeed. That is what makes the La Trobe difference.

Ustashia Pillay - Accounting

My name is Ustashia Pillay – I’m enrolled in a Bachelor of Accounting (Commerce); my career goal is to work in accounting, with a focus on auditing and assurance.
I enjoy being an ambassador because I get to work with groups of people from different backgrounds, interests and educational fields while completing my degree.
Being an ambassador means I’m in a position to inspire new students coming from high school and mature age students pursuing a higher education to reach their full potential at La Trobe.
Whether you do, or don’t, know what you want to study, it’s important to do your research. Look at university websites, go to open days, speak to past university graduates and look through catalogues and brochures. Another thing to do is ask questions, talk to family and friends and seek their advice.
La Trobe is not only a great place to study but also a place where you can pursue your interests. It’s the middle point between finishing school and going on to a big and bright future career. Teachers and staff are always helpful as they want to see you succeed! Incorporated in an environment of learning is also an atmosphere of fun and flexibility – you make friends from all disciplines and choose what and when to study.
Vajira Abeyratna - Information systems

Being an international student from Sri Lanka, I thought the transition to university life was going to be tough, but this wasn’t the case at La Trobe. This is my second year and quite simply, I love it here. In my opinion, the university offers us the best facilities and even better staff. The sports centre has so many activities and the newly renovated library is just amazing!
I have made friends with so many people from different nationalities and studying with them helps me learn a lot more. Everyone here is friendly and there is always someone to help you out or share the same interests as you.
In pursuing my degree I have been successful in mixing sports management subjects with Information Systems and find it a very useful combination. As part of La Trobe’s partnership with Melbourne Heart Football Club, I had the opportunity to work as a volunteer and gained a supervisor role. I someday hope to work in a specialised position combining both fields and I am certain that La Trobe will get me there.
As a student ambassador, I am employed by the university to help new students find their way. These positions are open to all La Trobe students, where you get the opportunity to meet so many people and work with a very efficient team.
Future international students should do a lot of research and understand key factors such as duration of study, entry requirements, fees and accommodation. It is essential you keep in touch with the university and get all relevant information so you are prepared and relaxed.

I like being a student ambassador as I get to help future students make informed decisions about their future and university. This is something that La Trobe did for me when I was unsure.
My advice to any future student is that you really should talk to people who are doing the course that you are interested in. If you like the sound of it, go and visit the university campus to find out more.
La Trobe Uniiversity is a place where everyone matters. You’re not just another number on the enrolment. It’s a diverse place where success is achievable for everyone.

Being a student ambassador has helped me to grow as a person and give back to not only the university, but to future students. This role has allowed me to further develop my skills and attributes while giving me the freedom to help others find their dreams.
My advice to any future student would be that you really can achieve anything if you work hard, and have your heart set on it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
The best thing about La Trobe would have to be the staff. They have been so wonderful to me. They want me to do well in my course and I have made so many wonderful friends from this experience.
Russell Couston - Accounting

My name is Russell Couston and I am enrolled in and studying a Bachelor of Accounting at La Trobe University Shepparton campus.
My career plan is to take over the world, failing that, to work in some high-end management position.
Being a student ambassador is very rewarding and it's allowed me to give back to the university for a change.
My advice to future students is "don’t be too concerned if you’re still not sure what you want to do in life. I only decided to come to university 6 months after finishing Year 12.
I should probably talk about how much I learn but mainly the social aspect, I’ve made so many friends over the course of my degree – some of them lecturers believe it or not.
