The full Armorial Bearings comprise three separate
elements which are identified as:
- The Crest
- The Shield
- The Motto Scroll
The Armorial Bearings contain three essential
references: to Charles Joseph La Trobe, the first
Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria; to our geographic
situation; and to learning.
The French motto, ‘Qui cherche trouve’,
(Whoever seeks shall find) is a modern version of
the La Trobe family motto.
The scallop shell, which symbolise pilgrimages are a
reference to the Coat of Arms of the La Trobe
family.
Australia is represented by the wedge-tailed eagle and
Victoria by the chaplet of common heath.
The open book is a symbol of learning.

University and Australia should be included with each
