Background & Process
For La Trobe University to be environmentally responsible it's imperative that a culture of responsible printing & photocopying be adopted.
Background
The Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committee and the Finance and Resources Committee recommended in 1999 the implementation of a photocopy/print strategy for the University called NetPrint.
The first stage of this implementation was the rationalisation of various under utilised machines around the Bundoora campus into newly created NetPrint Centres to work in conjunction with the HUB at Campus Graphics. This was completed in 2007 with the Bendigo Printery becoming part of Campus Graphics.
The purpose of this approach was to reduce the over capitalisation on photocopier/printers on campus, reduce staff time at copiers by changing work practices, reduce the use of expensive to run laser printers and to upgrade the photocopier fleet to Multi Function Devices (MFD's).
Stage two was the creation of a forward purchasing contract with one Vendor for the purchase of MFD's. The firt contract commenced in 2000.
This centrally controlled tender reduces the procurement costs for the University and is undertaken every 2 years.
This gives the University better leverage on pricing and service and reduces transaction costs for invoicing.
The latest contract commencing in May 2008 is for all all digital printers; both mono & full colour, all Multi Function printer/copiers; both mono & full colour, facsimile machines and scanners; both mono & full colour to be known as Digital Replication Units (DRU’s)
Stage three involves the rationalisation of copiers, digital laser printers, scanners and faxes into single DRU’s based geographically, not organisationally, and thereby reducing the overall purchase and running costs for the university.
These DRU's are to work “hand in glove” with the NetPrint Centres, Campus Graphic HUB and Campus Graphics Bendigo, all operating large digital equipment and related machinery and employing specialist staff.
Committee
The “Digital Implementation Committee” was formed to recommend the appropriate solution for your organisational unit.
The membership consists of staff members from Procurements and Business Services and Campus Graphics. Campus Graphics undertakes the evaluation and recommendation and when necessary consults with Procurments & Business Services.
There is a consultation process with yourselves before there is a final decision on the appropriate Digital Reproduction Unit for your group.
Process
To commence the process please complete this On-Line Digital Audit or view and select the DRU that you feel suits your requirements. This will also involve filling out the on-line Digital Audit;
Thank you
