Faculty academic wins essay prize

Congratulations to Dr Damien Eldridge, Lecturer in the School of Business. Damien was this year's joint winner of the Jan Whitwell Prize. He won the prize for his paper, "Multiple Interactions and the Management of Local Commons", which he presented at the Australasian Meetings of the Econometric Society's and the New Zealand Association of Economists (NZAE) conference in Wellington last week. Alumni recognised in Queen's Birthday honours list

Congratulations to Faculty alumni Bill Kelty (Bachelor of Economics) and Ian Watt (PhD in Business), who have been recognised in the 2008 Queen's Birthday honours list. Bill Kelty has become a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for service to the trade union movement. Ian Watt has become an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to the community through the development of public policy and administration in finance, governance and taxation reform.

Journal Appointment

Professor Harry Clarke from the Department of Economics and Finance, has been appointed editor of Economic Papers. The department will now become the home of this journal.

2008 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

Congratulations to Associate Professor Rajiv Khosla, from the Department of Management, who is a winner of the 2008 La Trobe University Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning. Professor Khosla was acknowledged for mapping diverse learning needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students to innovative industry-orientated teaching and learning resources.

Faculty professor receives major accolade

Congratulations to Professor Don Harding, from the Economics Department, who has been awarded one of the prestigious Thompson Scientific Citation Awards for 2008. Presented at the National Press Club in Canberra on 3 April, the accolade places Professor Harding in the top ten cited researchers in Australia. Of his 5 research papers, he was cited 64 times, with 12.8 citations per paper, making him the leader in his field of economics.

Australia Day award for La Trobe economics graduate

Congratulations to La Trobe economics graduate, Rosemary Aitken (Bachelor of Economics, 1981), who has been awarded with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year's Australia Day awards. Ms Aitken received the award for "service to the community through health and welfare organisations in the Eltham district."

First international conference of GAOC hosted by La Trobe

The School of Business is hosting the first biennial international conference of the Global Accounting and Organisational Change (GAOC) Network, with the theme "The role of accounting in organisational (and social) change." The conference will be held 9 - 11 July 2008 at the Melbourne Hilton on the Park.
