Nicola McNeil is a Senior Lecturer in the Latrobe Business School, specialising in the area of Human Resource Management. Nicola has completed a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours and Bachelor of Laws at Monash University and a PhD at Deakin University. Nicola researches in the area of human resource management and employment relations. Her interests include the impact of human resource practices on employee attitudes and organisational performance in the healthcare sector, and gender relations in organisations. Nicola is currently supervising a number of PhD students in the areas of the career experiences of skilled migrants; the networking practices of medical practitioners in developing countries; and strategies to reduce the emotional burnout of medical specialists. Nicola is also an Associate Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources, and is the Chair of the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes Advisory Committee.
Nicola is currently the Deputy Head of Department of Management, Sport and Tourism and the Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She is the Course Coordinator for our undergraduate and postrgraduate HRM programs, and the Master of Management Online. Nicola currently teaches our undergraduate and postgraduate Employment Relations subjects, and a postgraduate Organisation Theory and Design subject. She also coordinates a PhD coursework subject for the College of Science, Health and Engineering, which focuses on developing core research skills and an appreciation of the key debates surrounding the philosophy of science. Nicola was awarded a La Trobe University Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning in 2009 and a Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for High Quality Learning and Teaching in 2016.
From 2008-2014, Nicola served as the Treasurer of the Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Inc (ACSPRI), which is a non-profit consortium of Australian universities which offers research methods training for social and behavioural researchers. Nicola is also an instructor on ACSPRI Programs (Summer, Winter and Spring) and offers courses on the use of computer-assisted qualitative data analysis and mixed methods research. She was the Academic Convener of the ACSPRI Social Science Methodology Conference in 2014 and 2016, and was a member of the Member of the Scientific Committee and Conference Organising Committee for the International Sociological Association RC33 Social Science Methodology Conference in 2012 and the Scientific Committee and Conference Organising Committee for the ACSPRI Social Science Methodology Conference in 2006 and 2010.
Outside of her academic career, Nicola a member of the Board of Directors of South East Volunteers and CrimCheck Ltd, and was the Vice-Chair of the Eastern Community Legal Centre.

In 2017, Nicola is teaching Australian Employment Relations to our undergraduate and postgraduate HRM students, and is also delivering an organisation theory and design subject to students in our Master of Management program. Nicola is also the course coordinator for the Bachelor of Business (HRM), Master of Management (HRM) and Master of Management Online programs.
Nicola is available for consulting projects in the are of Human Resource Management.
Nicola has published articles in the International Journal of HRM, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Health Organization and Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources and Higher Education Research and Development.
