Issue: November/December 2005NewsHonour for Vietnamese educationistLa Trobe University has awarded the degree Doctor of Education (honoris causa) to Professor Nguyen Xuan Vang, Rector and President of Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in Vietnam.
Professor Vang has worked closely with the La Trobe Faculty of Law and Management to develop a successful MBA program, and more recently the Bachelor of Business and Diploma of Business Administration. Professor Vang holds degrees in Applied Linguistics and English Studies from universities in Hanoi and a Master of Arts (TESOL) from the University of Canberra. Professor Vang has been Deputy Chair of Vietnam’s National Foreign Language Curriculum Committee, Ministry of Education and Training, and is Director of English Training for Officials of the National Assembly, Supreme People’s Court and Supreme People’s Procuracy.

The
award recognises his outstanding contribution to English language education in Vietnam and the
development of international ties between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Australia – particularly
with La Trobe University.
