Issue: September/October 2007NewsNew Saudi scholarships
The three visitors, right, with some of the Saudi students who greeted them on campus, were Dr Abdulrahman Al-Humeidhi, Director-General for Scholarships (centre), Dr Eisa Al- Eisa, Cultural Relations Adviser (left), and Mr Hisham Al-Ammar, Manager Distinguished Scholars Program (right). Adjunct Professor Charles Mott, who helped organise the visit, said La Trobe already has numerous students from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Gulf region, particularly Oman and the United Arab Emirates. It is expected that some 1,000 additional students will come to Australia under the King Abdullah scheme. La Trobe is one of 22 Australian universities selected to receive postgraduate students from Saudi Arabia. Eighteen Saudi students are currently enrolled, a number expected to rise to nearly 70 next year.
