Omani students look us over

Sultan Qaboos University studentsA group of 30 top female students from the prestigious Sultan Qaboos University in Oman came to La Trobe recently as part of a prizewinning tour of Australia to gain an understanding of education and culture in this country.

His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Sultan of Oman, sponsored the trip for highachieving female students from the state university which carries his name. The students represented a wide range of academic interests, and were briefed on the University’s research and teaching capabilities, and further education possibilities. They also met other Omani and other Gulf students already studying here.

Melbourne was the first stop on their Australian itinerary – and La Trobe the first university they visited. For many of them, it was their first trip outside of Oman.

La Trobe has an academic partnership with the Omani government and education authorities and receives a substantial number of Omani scholarship students, along with students from the neighbouring Gulf states of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
