A second gold medal for Rachel?

La Trobe University fourth year Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics student, Rachel Imison, is aiming for her second Olympic Gold Medal in Athens.

A second gold medal for Rachel?

Rachel is goalkeeper in the Australian Women's Hockey team which hopes to repeat in Athens its Gold Medal performance at the 2000 Games in Sydney.

A member of the Hawthorn Hockey Club, Ms Imison plays for the VIS Vipers in the Australian National League.

She first came to international prominence when declared goalkeeper of the tournament at the Junior World Cup in 1997 in Korea and has since played in more than 100 internationals.

Apart from her Gold Medal at the Sydney Olympics, her career highlights have included participation in the World Cup (Perth, 2002) Champions Trophy events in Sydney (2003), Amsterdam (2001), Amstelveen (2000), Brisbane (1999) and Berlin (1997) and Commonwealth Games in Manchester (2002) and Kuala Lumpur (1998).

Ms Imison has come into prominence not only as a hockey player but also as a student. She has been awarded the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics Prize as the most outstanding La Trobe third year P&O student for 2003.

A year previously she featured in an article in The Age Education Section in which she described her life as a P&O student - without mentioning her 'other life' as an international hockey star.

She has been awarded the OAM for services to sport.
