A 'first' for Nursing Science

In another 'first', Bendigo Bachelor of Nursing Science students also graduated during the recent ceremonies. This new four-year degree prepares graduates for leadership in nursing with an emphasis on nursing research and policy issues. Sari Williams, Sonia Martin and Leah Carter graduated with First Class Honours.

Ms Williams, from the Bendigo Health Care Group, plans to continue her research into endometriosis to PhD level while Ms Martin, from Rochester and Elmore Health Service, examined how nurses dispose of excess intravenous antibiotics.

Research by Ms Carter, from Kerang District Health and Cohuna District Hospital, revealed an alarming number of asthmatics without an 'asthma action plan'. Ms Carter said her research may help raise awareness among local health professionals of the need to work with asthma patients to develop such plans, which can often save their lives.
