Issue: May 2006Arts‘Alter egos’ in ceramicsAnother La Trobe University artist, Maria Vanhees, has been selected for the most prestigious ceramics award in Australia – the Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award. She was one of 39 artists from 11 countries chosen for this year’s award.
from Australia, America, Europe and Asia. She has also been awarded two lucrative scholarships to undertake Masters by research at La Trobe this year. Ms Vanhees completed her Honours degree at La Trobe last year. Her present body of work, ‘Alter Egos’ grew from a fascination with insect architecture such as wasp nests, spider egg sacs and galls.
